The Windy City Ball was established in 2015 by a group of friends seeking to create an annual event in which friends, family, and members of the community could celebrate a selected charity. We believe it is our mission, duty, and purpose to generate excitement and support for worthy philanthropic causes.
Since 2015, the Windy City Ball has raised more than $40,000 for select local and international charities. In our initial year, we raised money for community development program in South Africa called Intsikelelo. Last year, our event partnered with KaBOOM!, a proponent of active safe play spaces for children, to build a playground in a western suburb of Chicago.
Intsikelelo is seeking to improve the lives of vulnerable and orphaned children in South Africa. The proceeds from the 2015 Ball helped in the construction of the Langbos Children's home which will provide support and housing for vulnerable children in one of the poorest parts of South Africa. KaBOOM!'s mission is creating active, safe play spaces for America's youth. In essence, this means they construct playgrounds around the United States in under-served neighborhoods so the local youth have play spaces. In 2016, the WCB partnered with KaBOOM and the Wetzel family to build a playground in the Hermosa neighborhood of Chicago. It was the first active space for children of the neighborhood.
